WORLD BOOK DAY - April 23, 2009

SASKATCHEWAN CHILDREN’S AUTHORS CELEBRATE
WORLD BOOK DAY

World Book Day is the perfect opportunity to also celebrate Saskatchewan authors — and what we do — write books and entertain children....and to promote literacy and reading.

In its inaugural year, we are pleased to present a variety of voices, old and new from this province for an event in Regina. You will hear from authors who write everything from fiction and non-fiction to poetry and picture books in a wide variety of topics.

We will focus on promoting and encouraging literacy and informing the public about the authors they have in their own backyards, with a hands-on approach and hopefully, lots of fun.

This event is designed to allow each school to apply to send one classroom to one reading session of their choice. There are four reading sessions to choose from, based on grade levels, each being held at a specific time. Within each reading session, all of the authors listed for that time will read from their work. Once the readings are concluded, the students may disburse and choose to visit any ONE of those authors. The authors will be in individual rooms to greet and meet with the students, who may also purchase books and have them autographed at that time.

As there is a limited amount of space, each school will only be allowed to apply for one session, and there will be a lottery draw to determine which schools will be chosen to attend. Applications need to be completed and sent in by 4:00 pm, March 20th.
